Women in Iran March Against Discrimination

By Moni Basu

(CNN) -- Like thousands of other Iranian women, Parisa took to Tehran's streets this week, her heart brimming with hope. "Change," said the placards around her.

The young Iranian woman eyed the crowd and pondered the possibility that the rest of her life might be different from her mother's. She could see glimmers of a future free from discrimination -- and all the symbols of it, including the head-covering the government requires her to wear every day.

Women, regarded as second-class citizens under Iranian law, have been noticeably front and center of the massive demonstrations that have unfolded since the presidential election a week ago. Iranians are protesting what they consider a fraudulent vote count favoring hardline incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, but for many women like Parisa, the demonstrations are just as much about taking Iran one step closer to democracy.

"Women have become primary agents of change in Iran," said Nayereh Tohidi, chairwoman of the Gender and Women's Studies Department at California State University, Northridge.

Black Eyed Peas Total Billboard Chart Domination

Black Eyed Peas currently hold the #1 album as well as the #1 & #2 singles in the country!!!

THE BLACK EYED PEAS’ THE E.N.D. ENTERS THE BILLBOARD TOP 200 CHART AT #1

The Black Eyed Peas debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart with their latest release, THE E.N.D. Their fifth studio cd marks the group’s highest debut of their career with 304,109 in first-week sales. This is the biggest sales week for the group, outperforming their previous cd, Monkey Business, which sold 291,164 in June 2005.

“Boom Boom Pow,” the first single from three-time Grammy Award winning, multi-platinum Interscope recording artists The Black Eyed Peas, holds the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for eleven consecutive weeks and #1 on the Top 40 chart for five consecutive weeks. Since its release eleven weeks ago, “Boom Boom Pow” has sold over 2,802,286 million digital downloads. In its first week of release, the second single “I Gotta Feeling” is #1 on the digital songs chart with 249,133 in digital downloads and debuts at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This is the first time any act has occupied the top two spots on the Hot 100 with songs from the No. 1 album of the week since OutKast did it on Feb. 7, 2004.

The exclusive deluxe version of The E.N.D., available only at Target stores nationwide and Target.com, includes four new songs, six remix hits and additional video content.

Rolling Stone calls THE E.N.D., “the best thing the Black Eyed Peas have ever recorded” and Entertainment Weekly raves, “pure Top 40 nirvana.” USA Today confirms “it’s booming, electrified pop with plenty of Pow” and The New York Times says, “’Boom Boom Pow’ arrives like a fusillade of punches and kicks, an onomatopoeia traveling at warp speed.”

The E.N.D. is The Black Eyed Peas’ first original new album since Monkey Business (released May 2005), with worldwide sales of more than 9 million copies. Monkey Business generated Grammy Awards for “Don't Phunk With My Heart” and “My Humps.” The Black Eyed Peas have sold over 26 million cds worldwide.

New Mariah Carey Song - Obsessed

"Obsessed" is Mariah Carey's first single from her upcoming album "Memoirs of an Angel", due to be released on August 25th. Here are Mariah's thoughts on her new song: "This is one of my favorite songs ever. I love the whole album. I'm completely immersed in it. I can't wait for you to hear it."

Basically the new song is a shot back at Eminem, the lyrics say: “Why you so obsessed with me? Lying that you’re sexing me?” the Greenlawn native sings in the chorus, before delivering the kiss-off “You’re delusional. Boy, you’re losing your mind.”

New Beyonce Video - Broken Hearted Girl

Beyonce has just released the music video for her latest single "Broken-Hearted Girl". The video starts with a tearful Beyonce's crying in her jeep before it moves to her frolicking on a beach, presumably with the man who would later break her heart.

The next single "Sweet Dreams" which Beyonce will release will have a futuristic feel to it and most, if not all, will be in color.

Chaka Khan To Receive Walk of Fame Star!

Chaka Khan has earned herself a star on the Hollywood of fame. It was officially announced yesterday through the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

In 2006, Chaka Khan was honored by BET for her contributions to music at the BET Awards.

Bryan Adams, The Funk Brothers, Alan Jackson, Van Morrison, Marco Antonio Solis, Ringo Starr, ZZ Top and posthumously Roy Orbison are among the other many stars who will be receiving a star in 2010.

This version of the song became a million-selling smash in the U.S. and UK, and it helped to relaunch Khan's career. The song peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in December 1984, matching her previous highest pop chart position from ten years prior (the 1974 hit single, "Tell Me Something Good", which she recorded with the band Rufus). The single reached #1 on both the U.S. dance and R&B charts in late 1984, remaining atop both for three weeks apiece. In addition, the song also reached #1 on the UK Singles Chart. While touring with Prince in 1998 in support of her collaborative album, Come 2 My House, Khan and Prince performed "I Feel for You" as a duet. (Wikipedia)

Carly Smithson and The Fallen

Former Evanescence band members Ben Moody, John LeCompt, Rocky Gray, and Marty O'Brien are forming a new band with former American Idol contestant Carly Smithson.

The Fallen, and that their first single, "Bury Me Alive," will be available for free download starting Monday at
wearethefallen.com.

the band will start touring in September and release songs in small batches, "so there's always new music and new reasons to come to another show," according to Moody.

Here's Carly Smithson's version of "Bring Me To Life", does she really measure up to Amy Lee?

David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over

David Guetta and Kelly Rowland collaborated on a new beat titled "When love Takes Over". Kelly officially released it a few days ago through Positiva Records.

David Guetta and his latest club smash continues to cause a sensation across the globe. Racking up nearly 4-million hits on Youtube, 'When Love Takes Over' featuring Kelly Rowland is currently No.1 in the UK midweek singles chart, steaming to the top of the chart by a huge margin.

Maybe Kelly finally found her market, if she'll continue featuring in tracks like this she'll do great in Europe.
